Recreational Services at Bethesda has recently introduced Bingocize as an activity that promotes fun and exercise. Bingocize is a fun mixture of a traditional Bingo game and an exercise program and even has the opportunity to be offered remotely.
One of the obstacles that we experience when improving and maintaining our health is making sure to adhere to a consistent exercise program. When you introduce the fun and social, recreational experience of a game of Bingo with your scheduled exercise program, it motivates you to continue showing up.
The goals of the Bingocize program are to improve or maintain mobility and independence, engage residents in social settings, and give health information focused on fall reduction and other health-related behaviors.
During the game, residents rest while numbers are called, and they mark their cards. After a few numbers are called, an exercise is introduced, such as tapping your toes, using only your fingers to move a string, and rotating your wrists.
This recreation program is excellent for a wide variety of ability levels. Studies have shown that participants of the program increase body strength, balance, range of motion, and of course, have a lot of fun.
While the game is going, music is playing, conversations are happening, laughing can be heard, and we may even sneak in a few stretches.
